Saplings Outdoor Enrichment:
Our philosophy is that children should spend a large portion of the day out of doors to foster their innate craving for experience and mastery of their natural environment. We provide children the space to grow their critical thinking capacity, creativity, and social intelligence through experiential learning opportunities that are learner driven. Through careful observation of the children, staff are able to thoughtfully craft invitations to play, pose questions, and lead the children to deeper exploration of the experience at hand. We venture into the world collaboratively to explore the evolving and unexpected wonders of childhood and nature.
Our Waldorf inspired outdoor enrichment program is for children 4-10 years of age, with a maximum capacity of 16. We guide the children in exploratory inquiry of the natural world through work and play. The entire day is conducted outdoors, with our tent as backup for extreme heat or rain. Children will be immersed in the natural world- allowed to dig, build, climb and learn; they will be supplied with a variety of tools and training on how to use them safely and appropriately.
Daily Rhythm
We meet 2 days a week, from 9:00 to 1:00. We structure our programs to have a natural rhythm that is flexible enough to incorporate and support the children’s Inquiry of the Day (IoD).
9:00- Drop off, activity of the day (stone soup, garden time, baking, painting, etc).
9:15-10:30 Inquiry of the Day (IoD) from teacher to facilitate play (example; build shelter), check in with students for ideas, settle into IoD.
10:30-11:00 snack
11:00- 12:30 free play/continuation of the IoD
12:30-1:00 Lunch, goodbye circle
